Foundation Hosts Scholarship Award Ceremony

Doyon Foundation students, staff, donors and other supporters gathered for the Foundation’s 2009 scholarship award ceremony on August 28 in Fairbanks. During the ceremony, the Foundation awarded more than $232,000 in scholarships to 238 students.

The scholarships awards included 19 competitive scholarships, ranging from $2,000 to $7,000 for the 2009 – 2010 academic year; 176 basic, $800 scholarships to full-time students for the fall 2009 semester; and 43 basic, $400 scholarships to part-time students for the fall 2009 semester. “We are so proud of each and every one of our scholarship recipients, and we wish them the best of luck in the coming academic year. If there is anything the Foundation can do to offer support, we encourage our students to contact us,” said Doris Miller, the Foundation’s interim executive director.

One of this year’s scholarship recipients is Raymond (Ramy) Brooks, who was the keynote speaker at the ceremony. Brooks, who received the Ruederich competitive scholarship this year, is a junior at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, where he is pursuing a bachelor’s of science degree in geological engineering.
